Matters of the Heart – and the Prostate

Kevin McVary, MD, director of the Center for Male Health, and professor of urology at Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Medical Center talks about the prostate-heart connection, how erectile dysfunction can be an early warning for heart attacks, enlarged prostates, and other health issues related to the prostate. Men typically come to Loyola’s center for treatment of urological disorders such as sexual dysfunctions, prostate complaints, kidney stones, urination problems, and low testosterone levels. While treating these problems, the program also assesses men’s other health needs, such as cholesterol screening, sleep disorders, diabetes screening, and colonoscopy screening. Such assessments can detect underlying conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, sleep apnea, and diabetes. When indicated, the center will refer patients for further specialty care.
