It is satisfying to see how we can gather men together on a phone call all dealing with similar issues and help one another navigate the AS journey.  It is a dynamic journey. Witness for example the evolution of thinking around MRIs.  First, we could not do an MRI without contrast. Now it turns out we can, and we can avoid any side effects from the contrast.  As things progress further, we see questions emerging around the accuracy of the MRI. A recent study by Westphalen of 6000 subjects raised questions about the Positive Predictive value of MRIs.

These things and whatever are on your mind can be discussed at our call.

When we were diagnosed with Prostate Cancer (PCa) the options we were expected to accept we thought were gifts? This became a learning experience on a topic we never expected to hear about. We learned we needed to do lots of reading and some of us did lots of research. Some patients excepted the gifts that were offered. Some chose to take a deep breath and look at other options. We learned that acceptance did not always mean without serious side effects. What is important is we have this discussion before we put our lives in someone else’s hands.  Will this PCa be a gift or a nightmare?

We look forward to connecting with you on the 1st Wednesday of every month. Each of you brings a unique, special, and different voice to our meeting. There is much fertile territory to cover. Including delving into monitoring, the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to AS, and whatever helps get you from one day to the next.

We want to provide a safe place for you to speak up, ask questions and contribute comments. What you have to say is important.

We are sure something about the COVID19 will come up, but we need to remember that we are a Prostate Cancer Support Group.  Each of you brings something to the table. You may be entering your 18th year on AS, or you may be on your 18th day. Your voice matters, and we offer you a place to regain your voice and share. Some of us may have been on AS for long periods of time but your voice is important.  Hope you can join us in our CV free exchange.
